Car Field Application

Types of Adhesives Used in Automobiles:Most hot melt adhesives have examples of use in automobiles, but different components and applications require different types of hot melt adhesives. According to their function, they can be divided into two main categories: bonding type and sealing type. The sealing type mainly uses butyl-based adhesives. According to usage and application temperature, hot melt adhesives can be divided into general type and heat-resistant type. Since vehicles mainly operate outdoors, hot melt adhesives are generally required to have a certain level of heat resistance. According to material classification, there are EVA, rubber, APAO, as well as PUR, PA, PES, etc., and shapes include blocks, films, sticks, granules, and powders.Applications of Hot Melt Adhesives in Automobiles:A car is made up of thousands of components, many of which involve the use of hot melt adhesives. Here are some parts where large amounts are commonly used:1. Interior rearview mirrors, exterior rearview mirrors, etc. Rearview mirrors generally need to withstand high and low temperatures, be waterproof, and bond plastic to glass. PUR hot melt adhesives can achieve excellent performance.2. Front headlights. Traditionally, a perforated rubber seal strip was used and tightened with screws for sealing. With hot melt adhesives, the bonding is both rapid and serves as a seal, reducing costs and facilitating automated production. The main types of hot melt adhesives are rubber type, APAO type, and PUR type, requiring good temperature resistance, high bonding strength with glass, and vibration resistance. Currently, some dual-component adhesives are also used. License plate lights also use heat-resistant hot melt adhesive sticks to secure wiring and electronic components.3. Dashboard, air ducts, interior fasteners, etc. In the past, mechanical fixing methods were used, which were time-consuming, labor-intensive, inefficient, and had poor sealing performance. Using hot melt adhesives significantly improves production efficiency and product quality. Mainly heat-resistant hot melt adhesive sticks are used, with EVA and polyolefin substrates.4. Car roof. The car roof is a composite of plastic panels. The type of hot melt adhesive mainly used is adhesive film and powder, with substrates of PE and EVA.5. Car door panels. Assembly of car door panels requires hot melt adhesive bonding. This includes bonding PP parts, securing audio systems, and wiring harnesses. The main adhesives used are APAO and heat-resistant adhesive sticks.6. Car carpets, floor insulation mats, trunk linings, etc. These are the areas with the highest usage of hot melt adhesives in cars. Types of adhesives include blocks, granules, and sticks. Varieties include pressure-sensitive adhesives, EVA granules, sticks, and APAO. They require long open times for easy assembly of large parts, good heat resistance, and low odor.7. Automotive wiring harness securing. Cars have a large number of wires. Unlike household installations with conduits, hot melt adhesives provide a time-saving and efficient method for fastening wiring harnesses. Hot melt adhesives also have some elasticity, preventing detachment during driving vibrations, while still being easy to remove during maintenance. The main types used are sticks and APAO hot melt adhesives.

Characteristics of Hot Melt Adhesive:1. Fast curing speed, suitable for modern high-speed assembly line operations.2. Wide range of bonding materials. Cars mainly consist of numerous metal and non-metal parts, making hot melt adhesive ideal for such products. For example, ABS, PP, PE, felt, and other materials commonly used in automobiles.3. Easy to apply. Hot melt adhesive can be applied in various ways, such as spraying, rolling, or scraping.4. Hot melt adhesive contains 100% solid content, is easy to store, energy-saving, environmentally friendly, non-toxic, and does not cause secondary environmental pollution.5. With global resource constraints, many automobile companies already consider resource recycling when a car is scrapped. Hot melt adhesive has the property of melting upon heating, which offers an advantage during car recycling and dismantling.
